Please can anyone give me any information on the role of Deputy County Lieutenants during WW2? I know they were involved as liason officers with the emergency services, and believe they may have been involved with recruitment for the TA and the Home Guard. Anything more definite would be welcome!

Any information regarding the home guard in Rotherham / Wickersley would be greatly appreciated. My Father remembers the Stag Inn and The Hind being used, but, my Son is covering WWII in this term at School and wanted to include local history for its immediate relevence. Can anyone help please? Thanks + + + Local Home Guard records may not have any immediate access, central location or storage facility. You can start with the local resources (library, museums etc.) or widen your search to the national resources (Imperial War Museum, Public Record Office etc.) Perhaps someone reading your posting here may have some local stories or information to help? Good luck with the project. Best wishes, Louise & Bryan + + +

I have just visited the churchyard at Clippesby near Great Yarmouth in Norfolk. As is my custom I scanned the area for Commonwealth War Graves, there were two that could be seen quite clearly. One was for a young Aircraftman, the other was for Frank Paul, See Details below: Name: PAUL, FRANK ROBERT Initials: F R Nationality: United Kingdom Rank: Volunteer Regiment/Service: Home Guard Unit Text: 11th Norfolk Bn. Age: 49 Date of Death: 18/03/1942 Additional information: Son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Paul; husband of Alice Jane Paul, of Clippesby. Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead Cemetery: CLIPPESBY (ST. PETER) CHURCHYARD Both graves were looking somewhat uncared-for. Can anyone provide any further details of what befell Frank Paul? He was obviously a local man. Yours etc Geoff Williams Squadron Leader

Hi, I just found this very interesting site, through Google, whilst trying to find out something about the place I was born. Mum was evacuated in 1943 to Loughborough and I was born at Lockington Hall, Castle Donington. If anyone can tell me anything about Lockington Hall or indeed where I can obtain any information, it will most most appreciated. Many thanks

Hello Brian - lovely site and very interesting too. I am writing because I was wondering if you ever see (not sure of name) Phil or Bob who wore the Fez in Berguen. Jill gave me email but not sure if its correct. I have some fun pics of both the english chaps I would like to pass on. Hope you and your family are well. See you maybe at another event sometime. I cannot find any record of my Home Guard service. My main time was when I was astudent at Harper Adams Agric. College with the 11th Shropshire Battalion but the college have no records. Kentigern House Glasgow cannot find any trace either. Any suggestions would be most helpful. + + + + + + The records for HG service are, unfortunately, not centrally stored and your search will involve working with a "giant jigsaw", using what information you have (your date of birth, dates of service, address in the war etc.) Armed with this information, you may be able to start a local search (perhaps a town or county library?) or even looking into the Imperial War Museum archives http://collections.iwm.org.uk/server/show/nav.00g002. The Public Record Office at Kew is also a great resource. After the war, many Home Guard records were destroyed or sent to local storage facilities (such as library store rooms etc.). Good Luck + + + + + + Home Guard Association

Good afternoon I found your E-Mail address on your website. I hope you don’t mind me contacting you directly but I work for a television company who are currently looking for a re-enactment family to take part in a Documentary series that we make for Channel 4. I was hoping that you might either know a family who might be interested or whether you maybe able to give me any advice with my search? I would be very grateful for any information you may have Many thanks Joanne

I was interested to read about authertic clothing - is this correct? The clothes and items used in your lives and displays are 60 years old. Amy

I love your site which I found quite by accident. It is nice to see that you take the fashion sense seriously. Many do not. We even have a yearly lecture called 'Burn the Boa' which teaches people how to dress with authenticity. Kudos to you all. Cheers, Stephan artist-in-residence--The Art Deco Society of California www.artdecosociety.org/stephan + + + + "Thanks for the note, Stephan - it is the detail and historical accuracy that are the key elements of representing the past. We are constantly surprised at how some people think a big hat and a fur coat will past muster as authentic clothing from the 1930s and 40s. Even details such as wristwatches, spectacles and personal accessories need to be correct. We really enjoyed your beautiful work - the galleries are wonderful records of your achievements - all best wishes, Louise & Bryan" + + + +
