I wrote to you in feb, asking for ideas on what to feed my guests at my 1940s wedding.Just to let you know the wedding took place last saturday, all my guests turned up in either 1940s civillian or military uniform, our wedding breakfast was fish and chips out of paperand we danced to a 1940s dj.The highlight of the day other than a great wedding was that my new husband david hired a spitfire to do a display over the hall where our reception took place it was fantastic, all our guests said it was a wedding they will never forget.

Had a fab time at Twinwood, Bank Holiday weekend, what a brilliant intro to 40's events. The dancer's were amazing and have inspired us to learn the Lindy and Swing stuff for future events. Everyone was very friendly and helpful, special thanks to Rosemary and Lester from Bristol. Is there really no one out their in Shropshire into 30's and 40's !?

Poulton Heritage Festival in Morecambe - 9th 10th and 11th
Places are available for stall holders in 'The Platform' stalls are £50.00 for the weekend and are inside, so no need to pack up overnight. All stall holders are asked to have either a 40's theme or be WWII type goods. There is a huge shortage of 1940's clothing in this area - so any stall holders with dresses or uniforms etc are most welcome.
Thanks Marie

Date: Friday 23rd September 2005
Time: 7.00pm for 7.30pm
Venue: Clarendon Hall at York House, Twickenham
The Museum of Richmond will be the benefiting charity for the popular annual 1940’s Big Band Blitz at Clarendon Hall, York House, Twickenham on Friday 23 September.
The Lord Mayor of Westminster will be joining The Mayor of Richmond to step back in time and return to 1945 for this special 60th Anniversary of the end of the Second World War. Big Band Blitz, an annual event since 1999, re-creates a special 1940’s Glenn Miller wartime evening where guests can put on their glad rags (1940’s dress optional) and dance the night away to the legendary music of Glenn Miller and other Big Bands of the period and be entertained by celebrity guests in true 1940’s style.
The setting is authentic 1940’s: in addition to as much complimentary Spam as you can eat, food and drink are available from the NAAFI and licensed bar. The original Twickenham air-raid warning will be heard and guests can take away with them the complimentary 1940’s newspapers, as there will be no time to read them on the night!

Dear Bryan and Louise
What another splendid day at Stowe - the Fashion Show with Dancing and Music was spectacularly successful and the MC's informative 'patter' particularly enlightning - a most professional production.
The Sing-a-Long rounded off the day perfectly.
It was also great to meet you - we can now each put a face to the name
I attach a few of the photos that I took of the Fashion Parade - the evacuee
acted the part 'out of his socks' as you can see - brilliant.
Looking forward to next year.
Best regards
Barry

A strange request, but does anyone know where I can purchase enough material to make a coat for my German Shepherd. I am looking for GI khaki or chocolate as I shall be enrolling him in 101st Airborne as a sergeant.
I know there`s a war on, but someone must be able to get hold of some under the counter.
This is urgent, there`s a bit of a do coming up and Max is wanted to find the wounded.

What ho chaps,
Stowe at War 30/31st July 2005, held at Stowe Landscape Gardens near Buckingham, UK.
The National Trust present Stowe at War, an educational and historical weekend dedicated to the 1940?s. The weekend is your chance to spend time exploring the history of WW2 in one of Britain?s finest landscape gardens.
Follow a time-line trail through our beautiful grounds and see our Nations and Stowe?s wartime history come alive with living history displays of civilian & military life. The trail starts with the Spanish Civil War and leads you through the war in Europe with British, American and even Soviet forces portrayed by some of the best historical re-enactors in the UK.

One ought never to turn one's back on a threatened danger and try to run away from it. If you do that, you will double the danger. But if you meet it promptly and without flinching, you will reduce the danger by half.

Marguerite Patten OBE is one of my home front heroes of WW2 and I have great news.
On Friday 22nd July 2005, she will be giving a talk on the wartime kitchen at Stowe landscape Gardens, Buckingham, as a 'taster' for the Stowe at War event to be held the following weekend.
Marguerite, is a cookery, writer, demonstrator and home economist, whose career spans more than 60 years. She began before the war when only a quarter of British households owned a fridge, guided the nation through rationing, and was the BBC's choice as the country's first television cook in 1947. Marguerite was awarded an OBE for her services to the art of cookery in 1991 and has received four lifetime achievements awards.
During the talk, visitors will learn about cooking war recipes with rations. Afterwards visitors will be able to sample some of Marguerite's wartime recipes.
For details & tickets for this event contact Stowe Landscape Gardens on 01280 822850.
