Hi Ernest Regarding your 1930's glasses, my wife bought some in Scarborough earlier this year and our local optician in Pickering had some flat perscription lenses made and they were very reasonably priced. If you need any further help please shout.

Hello. I currently have a pair of 1930?s spectacles that I am trying to have lenses made & fitted into. I can?t find anyone to do this for me. Does anyone out there in the re-enactment world know where I can have this done? I would much appreciate any help and advice you can offer as I would much prefer to wear them with glass than no glass at all. Ernest Fairwether 2nd btn Lads of Leeds Home Guard

I am trying to organise a party including an exhibition to celebrate 65 years of the Citizens Advice Bureau we first opened in 1939 as a direct response for the need for advice provision during the war. Has anybody got any memories/pictures/articles or any other info about CAB during the war years that we could use in our exhibition? We would be very grateful for any contribution. Also, we will be holding a party for our volunteers, we would really like to hire a swing band - could anybody help in recommending bands and/or telling us how much we would be looking at spending on the hire of one? All help very gratefully received!!

Hi, Just found this site. Went to Twinwoods this year for the Glenn Miller bash. Had a great time. Was born and raised in Bedford, so it was coming home for me. We plan on going next year, are there any other 40's things we can go to while we are over there in '05? We will be over there for a month. Would appreciate any info. Merilyn and Phillip

Hi Chico here, Had a great time in Pickering! Looking for the three ladies up in Pickering who said they were from the Tamworth area. If possible can they get in touch. It was so good to see so many friends up there. I can't remember all your names, there are so many of you. Keep in touch everyone. There's another forties day in Welshpool on Dec 4. I'm going, so ladies put my name on your dance card and I'll give you a spin or two! For those of you who turned up for the filming of Doctors in Birmingham,we should be on the TV on Nov 8, I believe at 2.05 pm. See you all soon. xxx

Hi Folks, For those of you who were outside the church (and of course those who were not) last year for our wedding, you may like to pop down to the Memorial Hall in Pickering on the Saturday, 12-5pm. We are displaying some of the items (dress, bouquet, cardboard cake, photos etc.) from our wedding as well as some other wedding memorabilia that I have gathered together as a 1940's Wedding Fair! You can also sample some of the wedding cake (not the actual one as it has long gone!) with mock marzipan. Hope to see you there. Carrie and Michael Page

I have just come accross this wonderful site! I see many of you writing on the guestbook will be going to Pickering. It will be my first visit and would love to meet some of you; look out for me, medium height & build, I shall probably wear one of my flowery 40's dress's, a straw hat & carrying a basket with some period packaging. Let's hope the weather holds out for us. See you there, Janet
